If you have been a rough time with menopause, it may be time to talk to your doctor.  As I said it a previous post you may actually have an issue with your thyroid, or another issue may be the source of your concerns.

To prevent delay in treatment of a more serious condition, or to minimize discomfort if it is affecting your quality of life, you should discuss your concerns with your physician.

However, many women have found doctor’s to be less than sympathetic.  They weren’t taken seriously, or received confusing advice.

The first step would be to get a referral to a great doctor.  Talk to friends, or look at sites such as the North American Menopause Society.
If you prefer a non traditional approach, you might want to consider checking The Institute of Functional Medicine.

Once you have chosen your practitioner, you need to be prepared for the visit.  A traditional doctor will only have 10 to 15 minutes blocked out to spend with you.  There is no time to work through all the symptoms and concerns on the spot.

To help you make the most of your visit, Shirley Weir of The Menopause Chicks has created a wonderful free guide to preparing for a menopause conversation with your doctor.  She shares her own struggles, and lays out a simple plan so that you won’t have the experience she had.  Its called:  Cracking Open the Conversation With Your Doctor.

Take a look, and then make that appointment.  Even if you aren’t having symptoms, you are likely over due for your check up.

Take good care of yourself!
